Rosobrnadzor will find out what opportunities for learning the Ukrainian language exist in those schools where students want to learn it, said the head of the department, Anzor Muzaev. The Ministry of Education previously talked about the development of a textbook on the Ukrainian language for primary grades.

As Mr. Muzaev explained, the textbook was developed “because it is in the form of the native language.” He noted that “at the request of the student, the state must provide him with the opportunity to study his native language.”

“Rosobrnadzor, including, we will closely monitor the implementation of legislation, the right to study the native language, not only Ukrainian, but all native languages of the Russian Federation,” the head of Rosobrnadzor said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

When asked about the introduction of the Unified State Exam in the Ukrainian language, he replied that there is also no exam in other national languages existing in Russia. “We do not consider our Ukrainians to be citizens of a foreign state. We have foreign languages, five languages, and there is an exam in them. Ukrainian citizens of the Russian Federation are the same citizens as Tatars, Bashkirs, Chuvashs, Chechens, and Avars,” said Mr. Muzaev.

Since the new school year, a history textbook for high school with chapters about the military operation in Ukraine has appeared in Russian schools. In December, the Ministry of Education and Science created working group to write the history of the special operation. President Vladimir Putin assertsthat the country needed a new history textbook, since previously there were more than 60 different textbooks, including those with “historical distortions.”
