The head of Roskosmos, Yuri Borisov, said that the accident at the Luna-25 station was due to the engine running for 127 seconds instead of 84.

The engine shutdown did not occur normally, “but due to a temporary cutoff,” Borisov said on the air of the TV channel “Russia 24“.

The experiment was carried out in the zone of stable radio communication, but at 14:07 the connection with the apparatus was terminated. Later it turned out that the device went into an open orbit, and then “essentially crashed into the surface of the moon,” Borisov said.
