Roskoshestvo discovered starch in pork ham

As a result of the study Roskachestvo found that 13 brands of pork ham sold in Russia contained starch. However, two manufacturers did not indicate it in the labeling. The study looked at 234 safety, quality and labeling integrity indicators across 21 pork ham brands.
Experts also found isolated cases of the use of soy protein, but in all cases it was indicated in the composition. In addition, it turned out that some manufacturers add poultry to ham without noting this in the product name.
As a result of histological examination, the presence of chicken was confirmed in the products of four brands that were indicated in the composition. Bone tissue was also found in some brands, which may indicate that the manufacturer used mechanically separated poultry. None of the manufacturers indicated this in the composition. All products, however, did not contain E. coli, Listeria or Salmonella. The ham producers identified in the study took corrective action and expressed interest in conducting repeat studies.
