Platforms “Zen”, Rutube and Twitch are included in the register of social networks of Roskomnadzor
In Russia, the Zen, Rutube and Twitch platforms are included in the register of social networks of Roskomnadzor (RKN). As reported on the website of the department, the owners of these resources received notifications about their inclusion in the register with reference to the requirements of Russian law.
Since February 2021, a law on self-control of social networks has been in force in Russia, according to which Internet sites are required to independently identify and block prohibited information. The RKN maintains a register of social networks to monitor compliance with this law. It also includes VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, Twitter, TikTok, Likee, YouTube, Telegram, LiveJournal, Peekaboo and Pinterest. Previously, the registry also included Facebook and Instagram, but they were excluded from it, as they are banned in the Russian Federation and belong to the Meta corporation, which was recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation.
According to the RKN, in the framework of interaction with the administrations of social networks, almost 60 thousand materials containing child pornography, suicidal and pro-drug content were removed or blocked in 2023 alone. In 2022, we managed to restrict access to more than 98,000 materials, and in 2021, almost 90,000 materials were blocked or removed.
