Roskomnadzor does not block foreign search services in Russia, including Google, informed “Interfax” with reference to the department.
“The work of foreign search services is not limited. For questions about the availability of Google services, please contact Google, ”the regulator quotes the publication. Also, Roskomnadzor recommended using Russian services.
Earlier on August 12, some Google users in Russia had difficulty accessing the company’s services, should from Downradar portal data. By 18:00 Moscow time, most of the crash reports (520) came from users in Moscow, 190 from St. Petersburg, and another 92 from Kazan. Problems with access to google.com were also indicated by data from the Globalcheck portal. In Moscow, in particular, access to the site was unavailable for Beeline, Megafon and Tele2.
On August 11, Kommersant reported that Google began blocking Google Workspace corporate services for Russian companies that fell under Western sanctions. According to one of the publication’s sources, about 30% of all corporate information of Russian companies is stored in Google Workspace.
Google itself, in its mailing list, argued the blocking with “spam messages,” and a source close to the American company said, in turn, that any changes in access to Workspace services in Russia were “intentionally not introduced.”
