Iraqi authorities to remove blocking from Telegram on August 13

Iraq plans to remove the block from the Telegram messenger on August 13, reported Reuters with reference to the statement of the Ministry of Communications of the republic.

The ministry announced the ban on the use of the messenger on August 6. Reuters clarifies that the decision to lift the blocking was made due to the fact that the company expressed “full readiness to communicate with the relevant authorities.”

“The company that owns the platform has responded to demands from security authorities who called on the company to reveal the persons who leaked citizens’ data,” the agency quoted the ministry as saying.

The Telegram press service told the agency that the transfer of personal data is prohibited by the user agreement of the messenger, and such content is removed by moderators. “We can confirm that our moderators have removed several channels that shared personal data. However, we can also confirm that no personal user data was requested from Telegram and that it was not shared,” Reuters quoted the press service as saying.

August 6 at the Ministry of Communications of Iraq reportedthat the messenger would be blocked in the republic, the decision was due to the national security of the country and the desire to preserve the personal data of users. According to the department, the authorities demanded that the management company “cooperate in closing the platforms responsible for leaking data from official government agencies and personal information of Iraqis,” but the requests were ignored.

At the end of April, a Brazilian court ruled to block Telegram in the country, but overturned that decision two days later. At the same time, the judge upheld a daily fine of about $ 200,000 for the messenger’s failure to provide the information requested by law enforcement officers.
