Roscosmos reported that the preliminary design of the Russian Orbital Station (ROS) received a positive conclusion and was approved by the state corporation. Construction of the RSS should begin in 2027 and be completed in 2032.

“The Russian orbital station is intended to become the base for our country’s manned cosmonautics after the completion of the International Space Station… Unlike the ISS, the new station will be able to operate in visiting mode, that is, without the constant presence of cosmonauts, which will also significantly save resources,” the statement says. message on the Roscosmos website.

The inclination of the new station’s orbit will be 97 degrees, which will provide an overview of the entire earth’s surface, including the Northern Sea Route, Roscosmos clarified. The orbital inclination of the ISS is 52 degrees.

The POC design will be based on a node module with six docking ports. After the module stops working, it will be replaced with a new one, the message says.
