The Federal Air Transport Agency approves the idea of ​​the Ministry of Defense to reserve seats on planes for participants in the military operation in Ukraine, a representative of the department told RIA Novosti. The Federal Air Transport Agency believes that this will serve as a “significant contribution of the aviation business” in support of military operations.

According to Izvestia, The Ministry of Defense asked airlines to book five to six seats on flights in the summer season of 2023 to transport participants in the military operation on vacation. Reservation will be removed 12 hours before departure. The Federal Air Transport Agency requested information on flight numbers and routes on which airlines can provide reservations. In addition, carriers must constantly monitor the availability and cost of tickets for participants in the military operation and ensure their prompt issuance.

The agency also asked airlines to organize work with the military as a priority and pay special attention to those who are on their way to or after treatment. Izvestia’s source in the Ministry of Defense claims that now, due to increased demand, it is necessary to buy air tickets several weeks or months before the start of the holiday, which is why the military cannot book tickets “for flights suitable for them.” Several airline sources told the publication that carriers are willing to book seats but fear losing some of their revenue if the military misses flights.

“Under the current conditions, we believe that the assistance of airlines in organizing the transportation of this category of passengers will be a significant contribution of the aviation business in support of the ongoing air defense,” said the representative of the Federal Air Transport Agency.

In February, Vladimir Putin during the announcement of the message to the Federal Assembly instructed introduce regular leave for all participants in the military operation in Ukraine, including those mobilized. On behalf of the president, leave should be granted once every six months for 14 days, and without taking into account travel time.
