Rosatom employees will be prohibited from using iPhones for official purposes

State Corporation “Rosatom» plans to transfer employees from Apple devices with the iOS operating system to Android OS by the end of the year, writes “Kommersant” with reference to sources in the market.

The state corporation itself confirmed to the newspaper that they plan to “focus on the development of utility software products on alternative operating systems” and abandon corporate applications on iOS by the end of the year. Rosatom explained the need for a solution by “achieving technological independence,” as well as additional “infrastructure sustainability.”

Experts warn that device security can only be ensured by our own developments, which have received certification from FSTEC and the FSB, while Android is not. An interlocutor at the market says that state-owned companies need to develop their own OS using open source code.

The ban on the use of Apple technology by officials and employees of Russian state corporations began to be announced after the FSB warned about the disclosure of a US intelligence campaign using a virus on the company’s mobile devices. In particular, such measures were introduced in the subordinate organizations of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Digital Development, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. A similar decision was made in the Federal Customs Service (FCS), Rosaviation, Russian Railways and Rostec, which switched to smartphones of its own brand AYYA.
