The authorities of Rome started a war with rats. Green areas, road gutters and sewers will be cleaned of rodents and then traps will be placed there. Sabrina Alfonsi, head of the Rome Council for the Protection of the Environment, announced this on her social media page.

The city caught on and decided to fight rodents only after tourists posted a photo with a large number of rats that run against the background of a historical monument. Now, according to journalists, there are 7 million rodents in Rome. This means that for every inhabitant of the city there are 2.5 individuals.

Officials claim that the reason for this increase in the number of animals was the intense heat. In addition, the tourist flow has increased significantly, and hence the amount of garbage in the city.
