Romania accused the Russian Federation of “aggressive behavior” of the Su-35 fighter over the Black Sea
The Romanian Defense Ministry said on Sunday that a Russian Su-35 fighter jet “aggressively” intercepted a Polish L410 Turbolet over the Black Sea on May 5. informs “Kommersant”.

The incident occurred when a L410 Turbolet of the Polish Border Police, together with the Romanian Border Police, was patrolling the Black Sea under the auspices of the EU border control agency Frontex.
The Polish plane, according to the Romanian Ministry of Defense, was intercepted by a Su-35 at about 13:20, 60 km east of Romanian airspace. After that, the Joint Air Operations Center in Torrejon put 2 Romanian combat aircraft and the same number of Spanish aircraft on alert. However, the L410 Turbolet managed to level off and the fighters did not need to take off. The Polish plane landed safely at the Mihail Kogalniceanu airport half an hour after the incident, the pilots were not injured.
On its page on the social network, the Romanian Ministry of Defense called the behavior of Russian pilots “aggressive” and unacceptable “against an unarmed aircraft that performed Frontex tasks to monitor migration risk in the Black Sea basin,” the newspaper notes.
Now Romania, together with Frontex and Poland, is clarifying the circumstances of the incident.
Bucharest also noted that the L410 Turbolet is in Romania from April 19 to May 17 as part of the Multipurpose Maritime Operation Western Black Sea 2023, coordinated by Frontex.
