During the debate in the Oktyabrsky District Court of Yekaterinburg, the state prosecutor asked to impose a fine of 260 thousand rubles on the former mayor of the city, Yevgeny Roizman (declared a foreign agent), a Kommersant-Ural correspondent reports. Yevgeny Roizman is accused of discrediting the Russian armed forces (part 1 of article 280.3 of the Criminal Code). The verdict to the ex-mayor will be announced tomorrow, May 19, at 14:30 (12:30 Moscow time).
The representative of the prosecution indicated that Yevgeny Roizman should be fined 280 thousand rubles, however, taking into account the period of detention of the politician from August 24 to 25, 2022, during the preliminary investigation, the fine should be reduced to 260 thousand rubles.
The defense of Yevgeny Roizman during the meeting insisted on the lack of proof of his guilt. “I ask you to find him not guilty, pass an acquittal and recognize his right to rehabilitation,” said Vladislav Idamzhapov, the politician’s lawyer (quoted from TASS).
The criminal case against Yevgeny Roizman was initiated in August 2022. According to investigators, in July last year, the politician, “wishing to undermine the authority of the armed forces of the Russian Federation,” broadcast on YouTube. During the live broadcast, according to the prosecution, he called the Russian military operation in Ukraine “war”, and the symbol “Z” – “ridge”. For the duration of the investigation, the court chose Yevgeny Roizman a measure of restraint in the form of a ban on certain actions.
