Member of the Federation Council from the Zaporozhye region, Dmitry Rogozin, believes that six-month contracts for participation in hostilities in Ukraine will avoid a new wave of mobilization in Russia. Dmitry Rogozin approached the Ministry of Defense with a proposal to introduce contracts with a limited service life.
“In terms of volunteers, all restrictions must be lifted in order to recruit people. It is necessary to give the opportunity to even more people to take up contracts concluded by the army combat reserve. These are six-month contracts. We are now actively working with the Ministry of Defense, I am trying to convince them that this is the way out of the situation related to mobilization,” the senator said on the radio station “Moscow speaks”.
According to Mr. Rogozin, contracts for a period of six months will be especially in demand among men aged 40 to 50 years. “This does not mean that they need to sign a contract, as, for example, contract soldiers sign – until the end of the SVO. Men 40-50 years old already have some obligations of their own that are not comparable to the obligations of young people. For them, a six-month contract is a way out of the situation. And they are ready to do in these six months what others are unlikely to be able to do,” he noted.
Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in early October statedthat the Russian armed forces have the necessary number of military personnel to carry out the operation in Ukraine and the General Staff has no plans for additional mobilization. According to him, more than 50 thousand people signed a contract with the defense department in September alone. Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev saidthat from January 1 to October 12, 2023, 357 thousand people were accepted in the interests of the joint group of troops.
