The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) filed a lawsuit in a Swiss court against the International Olympic Committee to recover more than $8 million from it, said ROC General Director Vladimir Sengleyev.
“The IOC owes us money, it did not transfer our share under the Top 10 marketing program – we did not receive $3.71 million on December 31, 2022. And this year we had a payment of more than $5 million, their total debt is about eight million dollars,” he said at the All-Russian Forum of Olympic Councils in Ufa (quoted from TASS).
The day before, ROC President Stanislav Pozdnyakov said that the participation of Russian athletes in the Winter Youth Olympic Games “is not possible.” He added that the Russian committee did not receive invitations to these events.
The Russian Olympic Committee also decided to pay compensation to honored athletes who are suspended from competition and will not be able to go to the Olympic Games in Paris – they will be held in the summer of 2024. Winners of gold medals from the previous Olympics will receive 500 thousand rubles, silver medalists – 350 thousand rubles, bronze medalists – 250 thousand, participants without awards – 150 thousand.
