RKN banned a number of companies from using Telegram and WhatsApp when providing services

Some Russian companies have been banned from using foreign messengers, including Telegram, WhatsApp, Viber, Microsoft Teams, Snapchat and Discord, when providing services. About it reported in the press service of Roskomnadzor.

“On March 1, 2023, Parts 8-10 of Art. 10 of the Law “On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection”. The law establishes a ban for a number of Russian organizations on the use of foreign messengers,” the statement said. In total, the ban applies to 9 messengers.

According to the text of the law, the use of foreign messengers is prohibited for those companies that perform a government task or provide public services. In these messengers, it is also now forbidden to transfer payment information and information that may contain personal data of Russians. The ban applies to state-owned companies, companies with state participation above 50%, and financial institutions.

The law prohibiting the transfer of personal data through foreign messengers was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 29, 2022.
