RFU will soon consider the issue of transition to the Asian confederation

The President of the Russian Football Union (RFU), Alexander Dyukov, said that in the near future the executive committee would consider the issue of transferring the union to the Asian confederation. Alexander Dyukov explained this by the fact that the RFU needs to hold official football matches.

“We will consider this issue at the executive committee. I’m not sure that a decision will be made, but the situation needs to be discussed. UEFA considers us a member of the European family, we implement all programs, they participate in the financing of projects, in our case it would be ugly to negotiate overhead. I said that it is important for us to hold official matches, there were two years of coronavirus, the suspension is now, ”said Alexander Dyukov at a briefing (TASS quote).

On February 28, due to the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian clubs from international competitions for the 2022-2023 season. The RFU filed a motion with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but it refused to grant it. Head of UEFA Aleksander Čeferin spokethat the transition to the Asian confederation would have thrown Russian football back 100 years.
