President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov said that the organization will discuss the transition from the European confederation to the Asian one. This will happen at the next board meeting.
How informs “Sport-Express”, Dyukov noted that a few months ago it was premature. However, now the RFU is ready to consider this possibility.
At the same time, he stressed that UEFA considers Russia a member of the European family and, in addition to holding official matches, cooperation continues.
Earlier, the head coach of the Russian national football team Valery Karpin said that he philosophically perceives the organization of friendly matches with Asian countries. At the same time, he noted that he does not have the feeling that Russian football players are smoothly preparing for Asia.
In February 2022, FIFA suspended Russian clubs and teams from participating in international tournaments due to the situation around Ukraine. After that, in Russia they started talking about a possible transition from UEFA to the Asian Confederation.
