Resuscitators were called to Kostomarov several times: breathing stopped

Yesterday’s news about the disconnection of the 2006 Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov from the ECMO artificial blood oxygenator turned out to be not so rosy, although it indicates an improvement in his condition.

According to portal “PROzvezd”, citing its own source in the hospital, the night was difficult for the athlete. Resuscitators were called to the skater several times because he could not breathe on his own. Therefore, he was connected to another device – artificial lung ventilation (ALV).

“ECMO is the last resort, we turn it on when the lung damage is very large and the ventilator cannot cope,” the source explained. Therefore, connecting to a ventilator indicates improvements, but the athlete is still in a state of drug-induced coma.

In addition to the operation of the ventilator, doctors inject Kostomarov with a large amount of antibiotics, muscle relaxants, and he also receives vasopressors – these are drugs that cause an increase in blood pressure and thus eliminate circulatory failure during intensive care.

Recall that on January 10, Kostomarov was admitted to intensive care with pneumonia, and then was transferred to Kommunarka.
