An unpleasant surprise awaited the residents of the Ukrainian city of Nikolaev when people began to prepare for Easter. As it turned out, during the fast, the cost of the food basket has increased dramatically. While the locals were trying to save money for the bright holiday of the Resurrection of Christ, the prices of products have risen significantly, and the prices of individual items have almost doubled. Add to this the ongoing problems with water and rising utility rates and you can get the most realistic picture, very deplorable. “MK” found out how people in Nikolaev live today.

Ukrainians are complaining that instead of the approaching Easter holiday, they will have to tighten their already tightened belts. Several media outlets in Nikolaev reported about the rise in price. So, a dozen eggs will now cost almost twice as much – as much as 70 hryvnias, and a stick of homemade sausage has risen in price by ten percent and now costs from 350 to 400 hryvnias per kilogram. Salo has risen in price by 40% and costs from 200 to 300 hryvnias, but the most expensive now is boiled pork, which has risen in price by 30% – 450 hryvnias.

“Those who have their own plots, vegetable gardens, one might say, are lucky,” Oksana, a local resident, told MK about the situation in the city, “at such prices, planting something in the ground is a real salvation. Besides, we have a choice not very many, because the stores are half empty. Many people in the city are practically starving. It is very common to see people examining garbage cans. Only it is unlikely that there is anything edible there – no food is thrown away for a long time. ”

How is the water situation in the city?

There is not enough water, and besides, it is not of the best quality. There are always blackouts, which the authorities explain by accidents at stations. And in the city there is constant smog and a strong smell of burnt – something is being burned in the port, which makes it very difficult to breathe.

There were also problems with electricity in Nikolaev. As residents of the city said, electricity in the city is not always and not everywhere, and according to local Telegram channels, special quotas have now been established for city residents that limit electricity consumption, and its “surplus” will be transferred to other needs of the Kiev regime. It is possible that they will go for sale in Western countries.

And in Nikolaev, the idea was again reincarnated to replace police officers – district police officers with “sheriffs”, in the image and likeness of the organization of law and order in the American states. This idea was repeatedly voiced by the Ukrainian authorities both in 2020 and 2021.

“They thought of calling police chiefs sheriffs,” reports the Shaggy Z Nikolaev Telegram channel, “It remains to find somewhere the indigenous population of the United States in the form of Indians, and the new Wild West is ready!” According to the activists, the “caretakers” demand to remove advertisements and inscriptions in Russian from city streets, leaving only Ukrainian.

“Whatever you call them, but the essence does not change,” a pensioner from Nikolaev named Viktor comments on the situation, “they are of no use when they don’t come and protect them, but how to carry out punitive measures – they are right there. They block certain areas of the city or streets, and there are checkpoints on the roads where people are interrogated and inspected. They arrest everyone who they don’t like, allegedly on suspicion of something.”
