In the Estonian city of Narva, a group of residents came out to defend a monument to the T-34 tank after rumors spread that it might have been moved. As a correspondent of the Estonian National Broadcasting (ERR) noted from the scene, about 100 people came out to defend the monument, while it is not clear who began to spread information about the demolition of the monument.
The mayor of Narva, Katri Raik, believes that this is a provocation, she referred to the data of the police department. “On this issue, I contacted the State Chancellery. So this is a provocation. There were no plans to move the tank tonight. This rumor was spread on social networks,” Raik explained.
Recall that the T-34 tank was installed in the place where the Red Army crossed the Narva River in July 1944, breaking through the defenses of the Nazi troops. After Russia launched a special operation on the territory of Ukraine in Estonia, proposals began to arise to remove monuments to Soviet soldiers who died in World War II from the cities. The T-34 was offered to be moved to the museum, but the Narva authorities in July of this year refused to dismantle the monument.
