The Spanish Ministry of Science claims that hackers from Russia are allegedly involved in a cyber attack on Spanish scientific organizations.
Spain’s High Council for Scientific Research, according to the ministry, was attacked by hackers within two days – July 16 and 17. However, hacking attempts were discovered only on 18 July. The attack, as specified, was carried out using ransomware.
There is no final report on the investigation yet, the statement emphasizes, but Spanish experts say that “the origin of the hacker attack is Russian.”
No loss or interception of classified information was detected. The involved security protocol led, according to them, to disconnecting access to the Internet in various centers of the council, which unites Spanish government organizations in the field of applied and fundamental research.
