Residents of an apartment building in the center of a Russian city are forced to defecate on the street

There are three troubles in Russia – fools, roads and cesspools. The other day in Kondopoga, where tourists are now actively invited, a scandal erupted over a wooden toilet in the city center. The district administration received a complaint: the latch on the door of the toilet broke, and the residents of a nearby apartment building, where there is no sewage system, are forced to relieve themselves in front of passers-by.

It took more than one day to process the complaint. As a result, the administration decided to put a new heck. The toilet itself with a cesspool was left.

A resident of a nearby house spoke about the unbearable living conditions.

Residents of apartment building No. 12 on Shezhemsky Street in the city of Kondopoga still live the old fashioned way: they heat their apartments with wood, carry water from a pump, and relieve themselves in a cesspool.

Some time ago, a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia, Emilia Slabunova, published a photo of a wooden toilet on social networks, where residents of that very house go: “This toilet with a cesspool with its open doors looks at the territory of the kindergarten. What will children and adults see if a person in an inadequate state, defecates, does not close the door. I’m not talking about unsanitary conditions. Nearby is a garbage dump with the presence of rats. Everything is going on around the construction of 1938, the residents of which have lost hope for resettlement and maintenance of the management company. The house has stove heating, no water and sewerage. There is no house in the resettlement program – apparently, it is still good. ”

After some time, the administration of the Kandopozhsky district reported: “The latch is installed on the door! Photo attached.” The picture posted a toilet with a latch on the outside.

A resident of the barracks, Svetlana Sleeping, spoke about the torment.

“I have been living in this house for 40 years,” Svetlana began. “We have nothing: no water, no sewerage, no heating. The house is two-storey, it has 8 apartments. Residents relieve themselves on the street, in the same wooden toilet. Besides us, everyone who passes by goes there. And this is almost the entire city. That’s the heck and could not stand it. Although the toilet itself is already scary to go.

The house with a personal cesspool is located in the city center. On the one hand, kindergarten. From another school.

– When the latch on the door broke, it became problematic to go to the toilet. People had to cope with their natural needs almost in front of passers-by, Svetlana continues. – Well, the deputy helped us solve the problem. Now we have a new heck.

– Why didn’t they ask to install a modern dry closet, and not a latch?

– We have been talking about dry closets for a long time. Useless. We are afraid that this one will not be removed. After all, one day we almost lost it. I don’t remember in what year, but they decided to dismantle the toilet. The administration then told us: why do you need a toilet, let’s demolish it? I answered: come on, then we will come to you on the porch. They thought about it and returned the wooden toilet. And my patience has recently burst, and I bought a dry closet for the apartment.

In addition to the toilet, we have a lot of other misfortunes here. If a person does not have the opportunity to go down to the street, then the residents go to the toilet in buckets. We dump the contents into a landfill, which is located under my windows. The stench is terrible, full of rats. We complained to the administration. We got the answer: the garbage dump is cleaned once a year. But after the scandal with the toilet, containers for bulky waste were finally placed near our house. But dry garbage is thrown there. And the dirty water from the buckets, where we wash the dishes and wash, is poured nearby. Nobody cleans up this mess.

We don’t have water either. The nearest column is 500 meters from us. Someone washes in the bath, someone goes to relatives. I have a dream: to wash and immediately go to bed.

You don’t even have heating.

– We have a stove. It took three trucks of firewood to heat the rooms, but they were still cold. Since firewood is expensive, most of the neighbors use heaters. In the morning you put the kettle on, it heats up for about 15 minutes, the voltage is weak.

The house itself is falling apart. There are already gaps left. Every time I go and think, we are about to fall into the underground.

Our roof is also leaking. The rain will pass – and a full entrance of water. If it gets on the wires, a short circuit will occur. Last year I wrote another complaint to the administration. They came to us to check. They looked, were surprised and said: it’s okay, water will not get on the wires.

How did you end up in this house?

– We lived in a small room, we were provided with larger housing here. One neighbor returned from prison, he was also given an apartment in our barracks. Two families purchased housing for maternity capital. Selling an apartment in this house is unrealistic. It’s scary to look at, let alone live there.

After the toilet scandal, the district administration admitted that the house was in disrepair. Here is a comment left in social networks: “The house was declared emergency and subject to demolition after January 1, 2017.” And they added: “It is not possible to resettle him within the framework of the current regional program. The planned resettlement date is until 12/31/2025.

– We wrote to the Presidential Administration. Then they received an answer: in the summer of 2023 they should be resettled, – says Svetlana. Later, another letter was sent by a neighbor. And we were informed that we would have to wait until 2025. And recently we learned that before 2031 there is nothing to hope for.
