Republic refused the status of a media registered in Russia

Since September 1, the certificate of registration of the publication Republic (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) as a mass media has been terminated. This was announced by its editor-in-chief Dmitry Kolezev. According to him, the presence of registration with Roskomnadzor “is more of a hindrance than a help” to the work of the portal.
“Republic refused the status of a media outlet registered with Roskomnadzor. We did it on our own initiative. From September 1, the validity of the corresponding certificate of Roskomnadzor has been terminated,”— wrote Mr. Kolezev in his Telegram channel.
He explained that being a Russian-registered media outlet “entails too many senseless obligations,” such as foreign agent labeling or “stricter censorship restrictions.”
Now, according to Dmitry Kolezev, Moscow Digital Media LLC, included in the register of foreign agents, is no longer the publisher of the Republic Magazine media. After the lawyers complete all the necessary procedures, the publication will refuse the appropriate labeling.
“Besides, it seems that now the law does not prohibit us from using the mat! But we will still try to do without it, ”added the editor-in-chief of the Republic.
The Republic Internet portal is part of the same media holding as the Dozhd TV channel (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation). Until November 2016, the site was called Slon (Slon Magazine). The Slon.ru website was launched in May 2009.
