In Canada, scientists discovered a fossilized tyrannosaurus with two babies in its stomach, Science Advances reports.
The remains at the Dinosaur Lands Badlands Park in Alberta have been known about since 2009, but only now have they been recovered and studied.
The age of the sample, according to scientists, is estimated at about 75.3 million years.
“During the study, we discovered that two hatchlings were preserved in the stomach of the tyrannosaurus, which are small bird-like dinosaurs belonging to the species Citipes elegans,” said Darla Zelenitskaya, assistant professor of dinosaur paleobiology at the University of Calgary.
Scientists believe that young tyrannosaurs fed on small dinosaurs, while adults attacked large herbivorous dinosaurs and even entire groups. The study will help to learn more about the ecosystems of the past.
