Reddit split the main feed into text and video

Social network Reddit divided the main user feed into two: one with text messages, the other with videos. The company believes that this will simplify the interaction of users with the platform, as well as help to find and create new content faster.
Both feeds will show the posts of those users that the author is following, as well as recommended entries. At the moment, the function is available to some users – in the coming weeks, Reddit plans to extend it to all members of the platform. Users will be able to switch between the two feeds at any time and continue watching. Reddit is also considering adding reactions to videos, with an updated interface, improvements to chat, and other features in the future.
The new custom feed could be a response to competition from TikTok. In 2017, Reddit allowed video embedding in posts on the platform. In 2021, the company launched a TikTok-like video feed in the iOS app.
