The Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow reported that Red Square will be closed to the public on New Year’s Eve. By information press service of the department, the entrance to the square will be closed at 18:00 on December 31, and will open at 08:00 on January 1.

“The exception is the GUM skating rink, which operates in accordance with its schedule,” the capital’s police headquarters clarified.

Similar restrictions are introduced annually. So, last year the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow also blocked the entrance to Red Square on New Year’s Eve.

Previously, Moscow authorities reportedthat there will be no fireworks on New Year’s Eve and Christmas in Moscow. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that there will also be no reception in the Kremlin on the occasion of the New Year.
