Received a patent for a spherical robot: it will deliver military supplies for the army

The machine can control the state of the load, such as detonation or arson

A patent for an autonomous universal spherical delivery robot was received by the Combined Arms Academy of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Thanks to its unusual shape, it will be able to move in places that are hard to reach or inaccessible to humans.

As it became known to MK, the delivery vehicle consists of two hemispheres that transmit a radio signal, fastened with special clamps and screwed to one another along the thread. Inside the sphere there is an X-shaped mechanism that sets the structure in motion. At the ends of each of the four “legs” of the structure, rollers are fixed, pressed by springs to the inner surface of the sphere and connected by belt drives to electric motors.

At the bottom of the hemisphere is a container with a power supply and cargo. Between the top two legs — a rack in which a control unit and a GLONASS, GPS, GALILEO, or BEIDOU antenna are mounted. Due to the rotation of the rollers, the spherical “shell” rotates around the “filling”, as a result of this, as well as the movement of the load, the robot rolls in the right direction.

Before starting, a program is loaded into the electronic control unit with options for the routes of the robot’s movement. According to the inventors, the spherical assistant can deliver a small-sized cargo to the right place over various surfaces, including water, snow-covered areas, zones of radioactive, biological or chemical contamination, zones of destruction or natural disasters, areas under fire. On the outside, a tread pattern is applied to the sphere to ensure traction on the surface of the earth, sand, water, ice, snow, etc. When moving on the water surface, the tread pattern provides rowing action. Following the route, the robot can control the state of the cargo, for example, turn it on or off, detonate or set it on fire, control the activity or inactivity of the radio.
