The two-component vaccine “Sputnik V” has become the most exported Russian product from the category of medical preparations. This was announced by the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev.
“Over the past two years since registration, the Sputnik V vaccine has become the most exported drug in the history of Russia and has rightfully established itself as one of the most effective and safe tools to combat coronavirus infection in the world,” Mr. Dmitriev told reporters (quote on “Interfax”).
According to him, for the first time in history, the efforts of RDIF created an international network of production partners for the mass production of the drug, as well as the localization of the production of the Russian vaccine at 27 sites in 18 countries. Kirill Dmitriev also said that according to the results of clinical studies and data on the use of Sputnik V in practice in different countries, the vaccine is one of the most effective and safe tools to fight the coronavirus.
“Sputnik V has been trusted in 71 countries of the world, where more than 4 billion people live,” he said.
Now in Russia, the demand for vaccination against coronavirus has increased. The reason was the increase in the incidence: in some regions, its increase by three times is recorded. Gamaleya, the developer of the main Russian vaccine Sputnik V, produced significantly less of the drug this year – only 2.34 million doses against 102.3 million doses last year. A significant part of last year’s vaccine has already been used: according to official statistics, 75 million Russians were vaccinated. The Ministry of Health reported that the stocks of the drug are sufficient for “for uninterrupted vaccination even in the event of a sharp rise in demand from the population.”
