Razin announced the appearance of a new “Tender May”

The history of “Tender May” from the very beginning resembled a detective story, and there is a suspicion that even after the death of Yuri Shatunov, the main artist of the group, there will be no less adventurous stories. Andrey Razin, as one of the founders of the band, recently announced that he has all the rights to names and music, and soon listening to “Tender May” will be different. “MK” is trying to understand what this means.

As the day “X” Razin indicates the first of February 2023. It is from this date that the music and video of the group will be available only on the official channel of the band and on the channel of Razin himself. Even a photo of Shatunov cannot be published without permission, not to mention the possibility of holding some kind of concert or evening in memory of the artist.

It would be more correct to call this statement of Razin a warning shot. On December 23, that is, exactly six months after Shatunov’s death, the artist’s family should inherit, and then, perhaps, more clarity will appear regarding the outcome of the struggle between the producer and the main soloist of the group for copyright to the group’s hits.

Razin has repeatedly stated that all the “patents” for stage names and music were transferred to them by a certain American company, so no one will be able to sue them. It makes no sense not to take the producer’s word for it, although in these realities, Russian-American legal cooperation and the greatness of the overseas judicial system seem to be something very far-fetched.

Another thing is the local sites, from which Razin seems to be going to remove everything related to “Tender May”. Probably, the intention of the producer to focus the kindly May content only on his own resources was taken by someone as a threat from the musical capitalist to take away their favorite music from the band’s fans. In fact, for ordinary consumers, everything is not so scary. What people have in the form of discs, cassettes, MP-3 files will remain with them, and even the pirate activity of individuals will be difficult to stop, moreover, the producer’s new resources will most likely be open.

Another thing is large TV channels and other media structures that need the hits of “Tender May” for broadcasts. They may have to make a few additional moves in order to get the music legally, but they will definitely not be left without it – even Razin himself is hardly interested in this.

In a slightly more difficult situation, apparently, there will be television talent shows, where contestants record their versions of various hits. Such entertainment requires clearance of rights, and the holders of these rights can be capricious. And sometimes sue, as did Yuri Loza and Alena Apina, who very successfully fought against the inconsistent performance of “The Raft” in “The Voice” and “Accountant” in “Three Chords”.

Probably the determination voiced by Razin to sue all the affectionate May that passed him by is a signal to television producers. It won’t be surprising if the big channels, at least for the time being, decide to do without White Roses and other LM classics altogether. In the end, the country is not the only one nostalgic for “Tender May”.

The most entertaining fragment in Razin’s keynote speech is his intention to restart “Tender May” in a different line-up. On the one hand, the desire to bring the youth under the old banners is the legitimate right of a person who, as he himself says, has the authority to do so. The producer can involve any artists in cooperation, trusting them to perform material from his catalog.

A few years ago, producer Evgeny Fridman did something similar. After his relationship with the members of the Prime Minister group came to a standstill, he recruited a new line-up and sent them on tour, including with the old repertoire. He had full authority to do so, and the public reserved the right to react to such rearrangements. And this reaction was far from delighted.

The new “Tender May” most likely awaits the fate of a cover band. Official, impeccable from the point of view of the industry, but still a team of imitators. The situation may change if the producer sets a goal to write new material. There will certainly be intrigue here, first of all around how a 59-year-old man, who has not been in the news for a long time as a producer under whose direction music is created, will begin to deal with the modern repertoire and its promotion.

And then there is reputation, as a specific idea of ​​a person. And this reputation of Razin, in general, is not great. In the eyes of so many people, Andrey Alexandrovich is a clever Karabas-Barabas, who somehow appropriated for himself what he has no right to. Perhaps this is a big misconception and all Razin’s actions are absolutely legal. Nevertheless, for a new round of his career, the producer also needs a PR person who can explain some discrepancy. Razin, it seems, is going to offer people songs imbued with love and compassion again. But for some reason, this process begins with threatening statements.
