RANEPA: 33% of Russians earn extra money on the side

Of all working Russians in 2022, a third (33.2%) had additional earnings outside of their main job, follows from a survey by the Institute of Social Sciences (ION) of the RANEPA. 10.9% of respondents have a permanent additional job in addition to the main one, 7.7% are engaged in part-time work several times a month, 14.6% – several times a year.

According to the survey, secondary employment is most common in the areas of construction, repair of vehicles and household products, real estate, healthcare, education and science. According to Andrey Pokida, director of the Research Center for Socio-Political Monitoring of the RANEPA, co-author of the study, the figure has certainly increased compared to May.
“The situation with incomes and in general on the labor market remains quite difficult. High uncertainty leads to the fact that many seek to find additional income. The role of an airbag in case of loss of the main job is also increasing,” said Mr. Pokida.
