Quarantine introduced in Elista schools from November 29 due to an increase in the incidence of SARS among children

The Chief Sanitary Doctor for the Republic of Kalmykia has introduced quarantine for Elista schoolchildren from grades 1 to 9 due to an increase in cases of SARS. Relevant resolution published on the website of the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor.
According to the agency, from November 21 to November 27, the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections in the age group from 7 to 14 years increased 1.7 times compared to the previous week. The increase in the number of cases is associated with the circulation of influenza A (H1N1) viruses, as well as rhinovirus infection.
In accordance with the decision of the Chief Sanitary Doctor, from November 29, in Elista, for schoolchildren from 7 to 14 years old, the educational process has been suspended, mass events are prohibited, and trips to other cities and regions are limited.
Rospotrebnadzor introduces a ban on visiting patients in hospitals and special monitoring of pregnant women. Also, to control the situation, daily monitoring of the number of diseases in all districts of the city is being introduced.
The precautionary measures will be in effect until further notice from the Chief Sanitary Doctor of the region.
An increase in the incidence of SARS and influenza among children was also reported in other regions. Thus, in Moscow, the number of children hospitalized for these reasons is currently 2–2.5 times higher than the average for the pre-COVID epidemic seasons of 2016–2019. In the Kuban, more than 3.1 thousand people turned to medical institutions (almost twice as many as in previous years), 41.2% of them under 14 years old. In Yekaterinburg, from November 14 to November 20, 15.8 thousand cases of acute respiratory viral infections were detected, which is 12.9% higher than the long-term average. Doctors note that the increase in the incidence is associated with a weakening of the body after the coronavirus, as well as with a series of quarantines in educational institutions – because of them, children stopped encountering infectious pathogens during the season of their circulation.
