Qataris have opened a historical account

Teams of Qatar and Senegal on Friday opened the second round of the group stage of the World Cup. Both teams lost their matches in the first round, both teams actually had nowhere to retreat. In the head-to-head confrontation, the Senegalese turned out to be stronger, winning with a score of 3:1. For the Qataris, by the way, this is a historic result. They have never scored at the World Championships.
The debut of the Qatari national team at the world championships, which took place last Sunday (it lost to the Ecuadorian team – 0: 2), made a depressing impression on the local public – many fans left the stands long before the final whistle. The playing weakness of Felix Sanchez’s men was received with enthusiasm by many, as it fell into the opinion promoted in the Western media that Qatar is not a place for football. The game against the Senegalese was supposed to prove this (they started with a defeat with a score of 0:2 from the Dutch), who, however, are considered to be superior to the Qataris in all football parameters.
The Senegalese team, however, hid their superiority in the class for quite a long time and quite successfully. The Africans had the initiative, territorial advantage, surpassed their rivals in martial arts, but moments that were not potentially dangerous, but such that they were absolutely one hundred percent, were still not born.
As for the Qatari national team, in the creation in the first half, it was remembered only by the attempt of Akram Afif, who fell in someone else’s penalty area, to beg the referee for a penalty. The emotionality with which the striker convinced the judge that he had been shamelessly dropped caused annoyance that such a talent did not follow the acting path. And the Qataris were nervous. Goalkeeper Meshal Barsham, who replaced Saad Al-Shiba at the gate, who made a lot of mistakes in the first match, was especially shaking. Barsham’s twitchiness was bound to be passed on to his defenders, which happened towards the close of the first half, when Boualem Khuhi, trying to knock out a not-so-fast-flying ball from the penalty area, missed, fell on the lawn like a bag, and it was not difficult for Boulay Dia, who came to the rescue, to shoot the owner’s goal. .
It is not known how Sanchez tried to cheer up his team at half-time. Maybe he came up with some cunning plan. But the Senegalese broke it already at the beginning of the second half, after Famara Diedyu closed the flank feed with his head. It turned out to be the most beautiful goal, I must say, everything was meticulously executed. And also, apparently, he inspired the Senegal national team with a dangerous idea that the job is done and you can relax. Yes, it might seem that the Senegalese, as often happens, deliberately gave up the initiative, waiting for a chance to finish off in a counterattack.
But it was more like the Africans simply went into resource-saving mode.
Fans of the Qatar national team should be thanked in every possible way for this. After all, they finally saw how their team attacks, and sometimes even beautifully. What was the cost of the attack, which was supposed to end with a goal by Ismail Mohammad. He hit point-blank, for sure, but Edouard Mendy, as if rehabilitating himself for misfires in the match against the Dutch, miraculously pulled the ball out. But the goalkeeper of the London “Chelsea” Mendy was powerless when Mohammed Muntari closed the flank pass with his head. A historical moment, by the way. It was the first (it is possible that for many years the only) goal of the Qatar national team at the world championships.
But a miraculous rescue that would allow the Qataris not only to score for the first time in the world championship, but also to earn at least one point, still did not happen. The Senegal national team, realizing that the situation had turned from reliable to precarious, carried out a quick combination, culminating in an accurate strike by Marseille forward Bamba Dieng, who set the final score – 3: 1.
