Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the government discussed today’s opening of youth educational centers in the regions. The President said that during the opening he remembered a passage from the Gospel about Jesus’ meeting with fishermen on the shore of the Sea of Galilee.

“Someone was catching fish, someone was straightening the nets. And he said to them: “Follow me, and you will be fishers of men.” That is, human souls,” Mr. Putin said at meeting. Fishermen later became preachers, he recalled. According to the president, this was very important during the formation of world religions.

“But this turned out to be no less relevant now, when we are forced and must defend our traditional values, our culture, our traditions, our history. What Russia will look like in the very near future and in the distant historical future will largely depend on the results of this work of ours,” said Mr. Putin.

The President noted that in terms of work with youth, the contribution of relevant departments, as well as representatives of all levels of government, including in the regions, is necessary. According to him, this work becomes more complicated given the volume of information flows.

Today, April 4, youth centers opened in 12 regions of Russia, including the Nizhny Novgorod, Kaliningrad and Sakhalin regions, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Sevastopol. Among them are centers for the development of professional competencies in the fields of entrepreneurship, ecology, sports, and civil society development.
