The court did not take into account that the defendant practically cannot move
Seriously ill Alexey Kulikov, which MK talked about, was arrested today in the building of the Moscow Regional Court. Servants of Themis confirmed the sentence handed down earlier – 11 years of imprisonment in a maximum security colony.
Kulikov, suffering from severe polyneuropathic syndrome, was arrested for illegal arms trafficking. The man partially admitted his guilt, explaining his crime by saying that his wife was dying (she died during the investigation) and he needed money for treatment. Kulikov himself constantly needs medical care.
After the court of first instance handed down a sentence (12 years in prison), he was not arrested, and he took this as a signal that his serious condition would help mitigate his fate during the appeal. However, today the sentence was reduced by only one year. The guards fastened one of Kulikov’s active arms to a wheelchair, and he was transported to the Volokolamsk pre-trial detention center.
The judge advised Kulikov to file a petition for release from serving his sentence due to the presence of a disease, which is specified in the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 54, among others, making it impossible for the convicted person to remain in prison.
