Putin thanked the women in the Northern Military District zone for their service to Russia – Kommersant

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that, on his instructions, female correspondents should not have been sent to the military operation zone, so as not to expose them to danger. However, in response, they threatened to quit and still go to the combat zone, but as volunteers. The head of state expressed gratitude to the women who serve the Motherland and Fatherland.

“I see, including girls at the forefront, right there, they are fulfilling their journalistic duty. And I instructed the heads of the main channels to remove them from there. Why put women in danger? And they took a vacation and went there themselves,” the president said at a meeting with graduates of the Krasnodar Aviation School. He noted that some of the girls were even ready to resign from television companies in order to go to the front.

Answering a question from graduates of the aviation school, what the president would wish for female military personnel who are in the combat zone, Vladimir Putin said: “Return home to their families as quickly as possible.”

In early March, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that 37.5 thousand women are serving in the Russian armed forces. Another 270 thousand women, he said, occupy civilian positions in military units and various military organizations. According to the Ministry of Defense as of March 2023, 1.1 thousand female soldiers participated in the special operation.
