Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik. In the course of the meeting, the talk turned to a friendly football match scheduled for November 19 between the national teams of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Russia.
The Russian leader hopes that the friendly football match will take place. According to him, “sport should unite, not divide” people.
Dodik also expressed hope that the game would be held in St. Petersburg, despite the objections in the Balkan country.
Earlier, the International Football Federation (FIFA) did not comment on the possible suspension of the Bosnian national team in the event of a friendly match with the Russian national team.
Prior to this, the Football Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that the meeting will be held on November 19 in St. Petersburg. The Russian Football Union (RFU) later confirmed the agreement to hold a friendly match.
After that, the leaders of the Bosnian team and the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) spoke out against organizing a meeting with the Russians. The media also reported that FIFA may remove the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina from tournaments under its auspices if the match takes place.
