Putin: sanctions are for a long time

Sanctions will remain for a long time, so it is necessary to take measures for the sovereign development of the country in the long term. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting of the Presidium of the State Council on the development of industry in the face of sanctions pressure.

“We all understand that the sanctions are, of course, for a long time. Therefore, along with priority measures to replace imported technologies and products, medium and long-term transformations are needed here, aimed at the strategic goals of the country’s sovereign development,” he said.

Putin also noted that some sectors of the economy were in the “epicenter of the sanctions blockade,” but due to the fact that “we were able to concentrate our resources and efforts,” the stability of the economic situation was maintained. In particular, measures were taken to replace Western products with Russian-made counterparts or products from “friendly” countries, Putin added.

After the start of the special operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Western countries began to impose sanctions against Russia. Putin has previously repeatedly stated that as a result of the sanctions, they did not achieve their goals and are an incentive for the development of a sovereign economy. So, in December 2022, the President urged achieve leadership in such areas as artificial intelligence, new industrial technologies, data transmission.

At the end of March, Putin notedthat anti-Russian sanctions may still have a negative impact on the country’s economy in the medium term, so it is necessary to stimulate domestic demand.
