Russian President Vladimir Putin recalled the importance of the uniform development of all Russian territories on the example of the development of regional transport links. The head of state spoke about this during the open lesson “Talk about the important”.

Putin said that even in the country’s leadership there are disputes about whether to pay more attention to the development of large centers or support the development of the country as a whole.

“Practice shows that the greatest results are achieved by those countries in which large agglomerations develop, they are centers of development. But everything is good in moderation, because even the development of large agglomerations should take place harmoniously: along with the scientific and industrial sphere, it is necessary to develop the social sphere,” the president explained.

With “distortions” in development, according to the head of state, acute, insurmountable problems arise, including in the field of transport.

“For our country, with its vast territory and relatively small population for such a territory, it is very important that our individual regions do not become depopulated, that there is no depopulation of these territories,” Putin recalled.

To avoid this, it is necessary to create new interesting jobs “with good incomes for people”, to develop education, medicine and other areas. The President paid special attention to the transport connectivity of the territories.

“This is a big, difficult, but necessary (work. – Vedomosti) for any country, including ours, with its vast territory,” the head of state said.

As an example, Putin cited the project creation of high-speed railway lines between St. Petersburg and Moscow.

Putin instructed to design a high-speed highway (HSR) from Moscow to St. Petersburg in 2019. The project was approved in 2021. It is assumed that the travel time between cities will be reduced to 2 hours and 15 minutes. The length of the HSR will be 679 km.
