Putin presented state awards to the heads of new regions

Russian President Vladimir Putin presented Acting Heads of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik with the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, the highest degree, Acting Heads of the Zaporozhye and Kherson Regions, Yevgeny Balitsky and Vladimir Saldo, third degree.
The leaders of four new regions of Russia were awarded state awards with the wording “for outstanding services in protecting the rights and freedoms of the civilian population from the aggression of Ukrainian nationalists.”
Pushilin expressed gratitude to the head of state. “It’s not easy right now, but we’re not on our own right now. We are at home, so we can handle everything. We will win together with Russia. Thank you for such a high award!” he said.
Today, December 20, in the Catherine’s Hall of the Kremlin, Putin presents state awards. The head of state expressed his admiration for those people who “at a difficult moment for the Motherland stood up for her defense.”
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories became part of Russia, and on October 19 martial law was introduced in the regions.
