Putin ordered to reduce education in universities for college graduates with the same specialties

President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Education and Science to work on the issue of reducing the duration of study in higher education programs for college graduates. However, this only applies to those cases when the profile of study at a university remains the same as in college.

“The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation should work on the following issues: establishing shortened periods of study in educational programs of higher education for graduates of professional educational organizations, while respecting the profile of the higher education received,” the President instructed following the results of an extended meeting of the Presidium of the State Council (quote from website Kremlin).

In particular, it is proposed to apply the “principles of duality” when implementing educational programs of higher education after the second year of study.

The President also instructed the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Labor to increase the admission quota for targeted training to 90% of the total volume of such quota in the interests of an individual employer. In addition, the President ordered that college programs be made relevant to the needs of the economy of the specific region in which the student is studying.

The Ministry of Education and Science must submit a report by December 25, 2023.
