The military operation in Ukraine revealed a number of problems, including with communication systems, President Vladimir Putin said at the Board of the Ministry of Defense. He called for increasing the number of drones and satellites, as well as improving the air defense system.

“The special operation also revealed problems. Thus, it is necessary to seriously restructure the operation of the communications system, to use modern means of reconnaissance, target designation and counter-battery warfare much more effectively,” said Mr. Putin (quoted from website Kremlin).

He noted that it is necessary to increase the capabilities of the satellite constellation “not only in the special operation zone, but also at the global level.” According to the president, it is also necessary to “seriously increase the production and supply” of high-precision projectiles and drones. He noted that “the air defense system also requires improvement,” but at the same time assured that the Russian Pantsir, Buk, S-300, S-400 systems “work flawlessly, they are the best in the world.”

“But what we didn’t pay attention to before, we thought it was some kind of trifle, some kind of plywood and so on, some small drones that fly – no, it turned out that this also causes damage, and This should not be missed under any circumstances,” Vladimir Putin emphasized.

Against the backdrop of military operations in Ukraine, Russia increased its weapons production. Concern “Kalashnikov” increased production volumes of small arms by 40% per year. The head of Rostec, Sergei Chemezov, said that the enterprises of the state corporation produce almost 80% of Russian equipment participating in the military operation.

In August, Mr. Putin instructed increase production of drones and other advanced weapons, including Lancet drones. In September the President statedthat Russia is working on weapons based on new physical principles. At today’s meeting he saidthat arms supplies to Russian troops have tripled compared to 2022.
