Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decree, which limits the possibility of serving in the Russian army under a contract to persons involved under an administrative article on drug use. They will not be able to conclude a contract for another year after the sentencing. Changes are made to the Regulations on the procedure for military service.
According to the decree, citizens convicted of drug use will not be able to enter the contract service “until the end of the period during which the person is considered subjected to administrative punishment.” This is one year from the date of completion of the execution of the punishment or from the date of payment of the fine.
It is forbidden to serve in the Russian army for convicted or under investigation citizens of the Russian Federation or foreigners. As a result, another category of offenders was added to the restrictions.
By the same decree, Vladimir Putin allowed to serve in the army on conscription to Russians who have foreign citizenship or a residence permit abroad.
