Vladimir Putin signs law on fines for abandoned pets
The head of Russia, Vladimir Putin, signed a law according to which a fine will have to be paid for a discarded pet. The measures also apply to owners whose pets will bite people on the street. The document was posted on the portal of legal information.
Amendments were made to the Code of Administrative Offenses, toughening the responsibility of citizens for pets. The penalty for a discarded pet can reach up to 30 thousand rubles. From the owners of animals that have bitten passers-by, they now have the right to recover up to 200 thousand rubles.
In addition, the law regulates cruelty to animals, according to which a citizen can be fined from 15,000 to 100,000 rubles if there are no signs of a criminal act.
Earlier, Vladimir Burmatov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, who became one of the authors of the bill, told Lenta.ru that the former owners of discarded animals were directly involved in the problem with stray dogs.
