Putin instructed to find money for the development of space nuclear energy

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the allocation of funds for the development of space nuclear energy. List of instructions after the March meeting with the government published on the Kremlin website.

Roscosmos and Rosatom, together with the authorities, will have to make decisions on the allocation from the budget in 2024 of “allocations in the amount necessary for the implementation of activities” of the federal project “Development of Space Nuclear Energy in Russia.” Particular attention will need to be paid to “the implementation of measures to develop the existing scientific and technical groundwork in the field of space nuclear energy.” Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has been appointed responsible; a decision must be made by June 15.

Among other assignments:

• develop basic principles for preparing new national projects;
• present proposals for the long-term development of civil shipbuilding, including the construction of civil ships for the period until 2035;
• prepare a scheme for the development of production capacities of organizations engaged in the construction and repair of ships;
• develop measures to ensure the competitiveness of courts;
• provide proposals for the creation of long-term financing instruments for the supply of civil vessels.

This year, US President Joe Biden ordered a direct dialogue with Russia on anti-satellite weapons. Washington claims that Moscow has the ability to “launch a system into space that could cause radical damage.” Contacts on this topic took place at the end of February. In the Russian Federation these negotiations called “completely unproductive.”
