President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to prepare proposals for holding sports parades on Red Square by March 1, 2024. Such marches were held in the Soviet Union, and athletes and Vsevobuch units took part in them.
The instruction was given following a meeting of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin was appointed responsible for implementation.
On October 19, on the form “Russia is a sports power,” the head of the International Boxing Association, Umar Kremlev, suggested that Vladimir Putin hold sports parades. President idea approved.
The first parade of athletes took place on Red Square in 1919. Since 1931, the sporting event has become an annual event in Moscow and Leningrad, after which it spread to other cities. The parades were interrupted by the Great Patriotic War. The last parade of athletes was held in 1954.
