On December 17, the United Russia party unanimously supported nominating the head of state for a new presidential term. The party will do everything to ensure that the current president wins an unconditional victory again, the chairman of United Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, emphasized at the plenary meeting.
On December 16, the initiative group of voters again unanimously supported self-nomination of Vladimir Putin in the upcoming presidential elections. The minutes of the meeting will be sent to the Central Election Commission for registration of the initiative group. This is necessary to begin collecting signatures in support of the candidate’s nomination. The initiative group needs to collect 300 thousand votes. According to Sergei Kogogin, a member of the central headquarters of the Popular Front, there were 700 people at the meeting with a quorum of 500.
On December 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his intention to participate in the upcoming presidential elections. The head of state announced this at a meeting with Heroes of Russia in the Kremlin. On December 7, the Federation Council adopted a resolution calling elections. The Central Election Commission decided to hold presidential elections within three days – from March 15 to March 17, 2024.
