Putin discussed with the Prime Minister of India the results of the BRICS summit and the upcoming G20 meeting

Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which the parties discussed the results of the BRICS summit, reported Kremlin press office.

“The results of the 15th BRICS summit in Johannesburg were discussed. The significance of the agreements reached was emphasized, first of all, the expansion of the BRICS, which will undoubtedly contribute to the growth of the association’s influence in international affairs.

The leaders of the two countries also discussed cooperation in connection with Russia’s BRICS chairmanship, which will begin next year, and exchanged views on the upcoming G20 meeting in New Delhi. The parties also considered issues of Russian-Indian relations, emphasizing the growth of trade and economic cooperation and the desire to implement large-scale projects in the energy sector and expand the international transport and logistics infrastructure.

Putin, the Kremlin added, also once again congratulated Modi on the successful landing of the Indian space station Chandrayaan-3 on the moon.

The G20 meeting will be held in Delhi on September 9-10. Last year, the G20 summit was held in Indonesia. Russia was represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. As spokesman for the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said, Putin does not plan to personally participate in the G20 summit.

On August 23, Vladimir Putin spoke via video link at the BRICS summit in South Africa. The President of Russia called for expanding settlements in national currencies and interbank cooperation, and also expressed hope for intensifying cooperation in the field of research and innovation. Putin stressed that in 2024, when Moscow assumes the BRICS chairmanship, Russia will “interact in the most constructive way with its partners in the Five in order to further strengthen the role and authority of the BRICS, which will certainly only grow.”
