Political scientist Sergei Markov in an interview aif.ru expressed his views on how Ukraine will hold elections next year.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that during the hostilities the country had no money for elections, but he allowed them to be held if the West gave $5 billion for this.
Markov believes that Zelensky “says quite reasonably: they say, what kind of elections?”, because “no sane person would believe that during the hostilities there can be fair elections.”
And in this regard, now Zelensky has a dispute with his curators, the source said.
“Ideally, of course, Zelensky would like to cancel the elections, they say, everything only after the end of the Russian military district,” Markov said. However, Western curators demand that the Ukrainian leader hold elections “to make it easier for them to pretend that there is a democratic legitimate government in Ukraine,” and “then it will be easier to allocate money to the Kyiv regime.”
According to the political scientist, Zelensky is being broadcast in this way: “We just need an imitation of elections” … “Everyone knows that you and we are all lying, and that the junta rules in Ukraine,” but “we will order to pretend that You have fair elections, so it will be so.”
Regarding the fact that Zelensky requested $5 billion for the elections, Markin believes that they will allocate it to him. “And Zelensky will hold elections.”
However, the president of Ukraine, according to the political scientist, “is not that strongly opposed, although he would have done without elections,” it’s just that now “for lack of a better one, he’s raising the price.”
At the same time, as election observers “from the trenches”, according to Markov, “many of the deputies from different countries will come to Ukraine with pleasure – risky people who travel a lot to hot spots.” Especially those who live in “the most ‘boring’ Scandinavian countries,” he added.
