Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the problem of floods and wildfires via video link with permanent members of the Russian Security Council. According to him, it is necessary to think about preventing consequences in advance.

The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Alexander Kurenkov made a report. The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, chairmen of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko and State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and others.

In June 2022, Vladimir Putin signed a decree on combating forest fires. In 2023, their area amounted to 4.3 million hectares, with the established limit of 5.5 million hectares.
