Russian President Vladimir Putin Meets with the rector of Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov Viktor Sadovnichy. During the meeting, the president personally congratulated the academician on his 85th birthday.

Vladimir Putin informed Viktor Sadovnichy that he had signed a decree conferring the title of Hero of Labor on the academician. “Viktor Antonovich, stars are stars, but I would like to informally thank you once again for your work for the benefit of Russian science, for the benefit of Russian education,” the president said. The Kremlin press service published a video of Vladimir Putin presenting the academician with a bouquet of flowers.

“I want to thank you for a great, vital matter for me. But, Vladimir Vladimirovich, everything that the higher school has achieved is thanks to you and your support,” said Viktor Sadovnichy in response to congratulations.

In March 1992, Viktor Sadovnichy was elected rector of Moscow State University, and was then re-elected to this post in 1996, 2001, 2005. Since 1997, he received the title of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and in 2008-2013 he was vice-president of the academy. Mr. Sadovnichy is a laureate of the State Prize of the USSR (1989) and the Russian Federation (2002). In 2006, 2011 and 2012, the academician became a laureate of the Russian Government Prize.
